Today combining physical therapies with technology is becoming more and more common. In this interview with Tómas Ronan, we will introduce you to Therasage FarInfrared bed a wonderful tool in achieving long lasting body health.
Combinational Therapy – combining physical therapies with technology for enhanced results
Traditional therapies for the relief of back, neck, muscular pain is helping people all over the world with some amazing results, so is there anything else that can further enhance the result? Tomás Ronan, Pain Specialist, discusses how the integration of infrared heat can give further relief and Malin Convery of bCenteredU gets to experience it first hand.
Last autumn I had the pleasure of meeting Tomás Ronan for the first time at a fair in Belfast, he introduced me to the FarInfrared beds by Therasage which he had with him and which I tested out.
Meeting up with Tomás again this year, at his practise in the Family Resource Clinic in Ballyfermot, he explains the benefits of combining the infrared heat beds with more traditional pain relief treatments.
Meeting
At the clinic I am met by Tomás who invites me to sit down whilst he tells me about his own background and what has led him to where he is today. Tomás tells me that he has been involved in complementary therapy treatments for the last fifteen years and he set up as a specialist around eight years ago. His background lies with Japanese therapies such as Amatsu and he now also practise the Bowen Technique. He specialises in back, neck, joint and muscular pain and works with a lot of sports people, but also people from all sides of the community.
Tomás explains that it was through his work with sports and other muscular injuries that he became interested in the benefits of combining the physical therapies with technological devices. He continues to say that at the beginning he used heat lamps during his sessions, which helped in keeping clients warm and enabling deeper treatment of muscular pains.
This developed into a more widespread search for something more deeply penetrating and through the contacts made when using the heat lamps Tomás and colleagues were directed to distributors in LA, US. On a trip to LA they found out about infrared heat beds, but the product that they had been viewing raised concerns about to high levels of radiations. After leaving their search for alternatives, they eventually (a couple of years later) found a competitor to the first distributor and found that they were by far superior in quality and most importantly, had no radiation.
The FarInfrared beds
Going into the more practical details of the FarInfrared beds Tomás explains that it is the 14 jade rollers which operates underneath the leather covers of the beds, together with the infrared heat that gives the client an overall massage experience. The beds can be set at various intensities and programmes to suit the client and also enables the client to experience a combination of settings. At the same time as the usage of the beds provide relaxation Tomás describes how it helps burn calories and can in a combination with exercise and good diet help with weight loss.
After explaining the intricate details of these beds I am offered the opportunity to try lying down on one. As I lie down on the bed, a heat pad is put over my legs and one over my lower belly. Once the bed is turned on the heat start to surround the back, and starting from the bottom of my legs the jade rollers will start to work their way up the body, moving at various intensity and focusing on special areas of the body. It is hard to say what I had expected but the only way to explain it is that after the initial uncomfortable sensation, as the muscles are still hard, I start to relax and towards the end of the 30 minutes I had already found myself dozing off. Tomás is right when saying that you really do have to try it at least twice in order to appreciate the effects of this treatment.
Tomás, tells me that he usually advices his clients to lie on the bed for thirty minutes after their other therapy session, but also states that clients can come in and lie on the beds without the treatment.
The clinic has four FarInfrared beds and offers a Relaxation Club, which enables clients to come in for a thirty minutes session upon making a booking.
The FarInfrared beds can be used by anyone, but it is advisable that pregnant women and clients with pacemakers do not to use them, as it might harm them.
Tomás Ronan and the Active Balance Clinic is the only licensed distributors in Ireland for the FarInfrared beds and also act as agents for Therasage other products and TheraDesign™ Wear products. Therasage products cover everything from home and office furnisher, to everyday clothes and accessories for humans and canines.
