It makes me smile thinking of how “funny” strange people can be, how a person who is positive and enthusiastic can be looked down upon just as frequently as someone with a bad attitude can be told to lighten up. What is it with us people that does not allow for either the positive or the negative to be rewarded?
I would consider myself as a pretty positive person and I would like to think that others find this to be true if they happen to be in my presence? Still I would probably be the most happy when I am on my own. Why, well it’s not always appropriate to be very positive when others are not in “the mood”. Though saying that sometimes it is exactly during those occasions it is the most called for!
All I am advocating is to give credit where credit is due! In your personal life as well as your professional!
Nobody is going to want to come to you if you look and act as if the world is coming down on top of you right? If a client comes to you then you will have to set yourself aside and focus on them.
If their experience of you has been positive then they will tell more people about you, put you in a positive light and hence create a more positive outcome for you. So do not only reward others positivity with a smile, thank you or a compliment … but also remember to reward yourself!
In my work I focus on creating that positive space for all who comes to me, it is amazing how much healing a listening ear can create. How a small act of empathy can create a reaction in someone that makes them feel so much better and the reward for that is not even monetary but positive gratitude. It doesn’t get any better than that! |
